Rental vacancy rate rises to 1.4% as unit rents start to ease
Australia's rental vacancy rate rose to 1.4% in September 2026, according to SQM Research, led by Sydney and Melbourne. Unit asking rents fell in seven of the eight capitals over the past month, but house rents are still climbing and the smaller capitals remain very tight.
